Now that we’ve officially ooh-ed and ahh-ed into the tail-end of summers in Delhi, we’re looking for a vacation in some place cool and calm where life moves hand-in-hand with us, instead of one running after the other, and we think we’ve stumbled upon just the place!
Because you’ll find most of Delhi huddled across the numerous hills along the Northern belt, we thought we’d head South to Kerala and steal some time to ourselves in the ‘land of all seasons’. What place is this, you ask? Say hello to the Lalit Spa & Resort in Bekal!
We came to know that the resort features 37 suites with three categories of rooms – Deluxe Suite, Luxury Suite & Spa Suite, besides The Lalit Legacy Suite which is their presidential suite. They have one floating cottage *OMG* facing the sea – Kettuvallom which offers two plush bedrooms with a separate living room and luxurious amenities.
Skirted on three sides by the river Nombili in the lap of the Arabian Sea, The Lalit Resort & Spa Bekal is a tranquil haven for a city dweller. Nestled amidst picturesque gardens and an inner lagoon overlooking a pristine white beach, this is the perfect destination to unwind in peace!
Experience a luxurious stay at the resort where every suite offers you a breathtaking view of the inner lagoon or backwaters. Aesthetically designed, the suites are decorated with exquisite artefacts, original antiques and modern furnishings that promise a comfortable stay. And we can say with certainty that we definitely cherished being pampered to the core!
Eat (& Drink) Well, Live Well
The Lalit Resort & Spa Bekal, combines the finest of traditional Kerala cuisines with culinary concepts from all over the world, so the restaurant & bar at the resort offers distinctive cuisines to choose from. Nombili – The Restaurant, offers diverse fare that features cuisines from South to North India.
You can even choose to dine in private in a secluded gazebo or riverside tent, or even in the privacy of your room’s balcony! Nombili – The Bar, offers a view of the lagoon, with an open-air deck adjacent to the swimming pool that makes for a perfect setting to enjoy an extensive range of mocktails, sparkling cocktails, wines and beer from across the globe.
What We Got Upto
Getting into the thick of things, we headed on to the backwaters within the property for some fishing, with fishing rods and bait in tow. More than the act of being able to catch a fish, we reveled in the beautiful surroundings, the still waters teeming with fish, the lush palm trees with a couple of guests kayaking away to glory.
We tried a mix of local and some Continental and Italian options for dinner, starting out with the Mutton Pepper Fry which was a dry and spicy preparation with local spices. The meat was soft and succulent and served piping hot by the efficient butler. Next came the Chicken 65, known to incorporate a mix of 65 spices with red chillies reigning supreme; we washed this down with some refreshing, albeit overly sweet, Mojitos.
For mains, we ordered a Seafood Alfredo Pasta which was more of a local preparation than an authentic Italian one; and for dessert, the quintessential favourite – Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla ice-cream was rich and every bit decadent. Also, a local delicacy was tried – Payasam, a version of rice pudding (Kheer) which was great.
Relax & Unwind
Witness the local culture of Kerala through traditional performances of Theyyam deities, Yakshagana, Mohiniyattam, Bharathanatyam and Kathakali dances that the resort can arrange. You can also indulge in personalized yoga and meditation sessions, fishing, kayaking and canoeing down the Nombili River amidst lush greens & placid backwaters.
*We LOVE* Rejuve – The Spa that offers ayurvedic healing and curative therapies in the most authentic & traditional form and you should definitely give it a try! There is so much more to explore in and around Bekal but should you choose to simply stay in and enjoy the company of the backwaters and the lush flora enveloping the resort, you’d not be disappointed by either!
